LM Wood

Having been educated in a variety of diverse artistic styles and practices, LM Wood successfully navigated between the domains of art, craft and technology.  Her art is a blend of digital technologies and traditional processes resulting in hybrid works that elevate process and craft to “high art”.  Exploring the intersection between reality and history, she celebrated how memory is represented through her surreal narratives and the juxtaposition of materials.

Wood had presented and exhibited her artwork nationally including exhibitions at the Museum of Design (Atlanta, GA), Center for Craft, Creativity and Design (Asheville, NC), and the North Dakota Museum of Art (Grand Forks, ND).  She had also won several awards for her experimental works including a grant from the Kentucky Foundation for Women for her earlier research into combining digital technologies and traditional photographic processes and a Visual Arts Fellowship from the North Carolina Arts Council for her digitally printed fabric quilts.

In her teaching, Wood believed that students are central partners in learning where equal emphasis is placed on technical and formal development and concept building.  Since coming to Elon University in 2000, she had taught digital art courses including:  Introduction to Digital Art, Static Imaging, Advanced Projects in Static Imaging, Interactive Art and Web Art.  She has also taught The Study of Fibers, Advanced Projects in Fibers, Professional Practices, and Senior Seminar.
